Get Claude Code completion and input alerts with Pager

Pager tells you when a long Claude Code turn finishes, when Claude needs your input, or when a turn ends with an error. Sounds work on macOS. Optional phone notifications use ntfy.sh and require separate configuration.

Start with local alerts

Run these inside Claude Code. Add the marketplace once, then install the mod. Skip the marketplace command if you already added it.

/plugin marketplace add modmyclaude/claude-code-mods
/plugin install pager@modmyclaude

Run /pager to inspect its status. Choose a sound pack with /pager pack zen, then run /pager test when you are ready to hear the samples. The test plays even while Pager is muted.

/pager

Keep ntfyTopic empty for this first setup. You can check local behavior before enabling any phone delivery.

Make alerts useful rather than noisy

In /config, choose Pager. The default minDuration is 20 seconds, so short finished turns do not trigger the completion sound. Set quietHours to a local time range such as 22:00-07:00 when you want quiet evenings.

Use /pager mute 30m for a temporary pause and /pager unmute to end it. Mute and quiet hours suppress sounds and phone pushes; toasts still appear.

During ordinary work, check whether a longer completed turn produces the expected alert. There is no need to run a risky command to test a permission notification.

If an alert does not arrive

On Linux and Windows, sounds are silent in the reviewed implementation. Toasts and configured phone pushes can still work.

A completion alert can be skipped because the turn was short, Pager was muted, quiet hours applied, or another alert occurred within the session's five-second gap. An interrupted turn does not produce a completion sound.

Input alerts follow Claude Code's notification events rather than every prompt immediately. A headless session without a drawing surface stays silent.

Decide whether to enable phone notifications

Set ntfyTopic only if you want phone delivery. Pager then sends fixed alert text to that service, including turn duration for completion alerts. The reviewed version does not send prompts, answers, project names or session titles.

Anyone who knows the topic can read its messages, so use an unguessable topic. Delivery can fail when the service or network is unavailable; Pager does not turn phone push into a guaranteed notification channel.
